“I was not pushed into the business by anything other than my own ambition and my own dream of wanting to act.” Born in Westlake California, she is the daughter of Sarah, a former professional skater, and real estate agent Robert Majorino. He owns many Prudential Reality offices in Ventura County California. Her parents are Italian, Cuban, French, German, Scottish, English and Filipino. She has an older brother Kevin who is in the band, The AM Project.

Career

She became acting at an early age in the 1992 sitcom Camp Wilder. Her first film role was in When a Man Loves a Woman in 1994. She also had leading roles in Corrina, Corrina and Andre, both released in August 1994. Her next film was in 1995 playing Enola in the movie Waterworld. In 1999, she was the title role of Alice in the television film, Alice in Wonderland. After this she took some time off citing burnout as the reason. She didn’t appear in another film until 2004. “I always used to tell myself when I was a kid – there is something better,” Majorino said. “If you don’t get it, it’s not meant to be. There’s enough work for everybody. I don’t really think that I believed it as much as I do now, though.”

She prides herself on choosing movie roles that include important life lessons. For instance, in When a Man Loves a Woman, the effects of alcohol abuse are explored. In Corrina, Corrina, a young girl grows up in a single parent home. She finds happiness during a difficult time with her housekeeper. She later finds religion too despite her father’s belief who is atheistic.

In speaking on her time away from showbiz, she says: “I think … the best decision I ever made for myself was taking that time off to get to know myself so that if I ever did decide to come back, I could be strong enough and grounded enough to know what’s really important and what’s not.” She returned at the age of 18 as Deb in Napoleon Dynamite, her most famous role. “People know they have seen me somewhere, but they don't know where. They think I'm their next-door neighbor.” She said she chose the role because of the dry humor aspect and that it was something she had never explored before as an actress. It believed it would be a great choice for a return to acting since it was lighthearted.

She also has been on many television series including Big Love, True Blood, Veronica Mars (as Cindy “Mac” Mackenzie) & Grey’s Anatomy. She even played the role of Mac in the Veronica Mars movie. She also played Maggie Harris on television series The Legends. She also has been Florence in the series Scorpion. She also was Addy Fisher, a first-year associated at a high-profile law firm in The Deep End. She returned to television in 2011 playing Genny Shaw on Bones. Only six episodes aired of the show. “I always get asked if I’ve made a conscious choice to just now do television and that’s definitely not the case,” Majorino said. “It’s just that with these roles that I’ve been able to play, they’ve just appealed to me a lot.”

She reprised her role as Deb in the animated TV version of Napoleon Dynamite in 2012. She was also on Raising Hope. She was asked to reprise her role of Mac for Veronica Mars fourth season on Hulu, but later turned down the role learning it was only a cameo.
