One person that wears a lot of hats in the entertainment industry is Nick Cannon. Not only has he had a singing career, but he’s also acted in film and television. Just to give himself even more jobs, Cannon has had hosting duties on multiple television shows for well over a decade. Now getting to his 40s, Cannon has achieved a lot in Hollywood, and for several years was married to one of the biggest singers of all-time.

Cannon was born in San Diego, California on October 8, 1980, and grew up in one of the rougher parts of the city. Cannon was a natural born entertainer while he was a child, and was doing stand-up comedy on cable access television during high school. As soon as he graduated, Cannon headed out of San Diego to find fame, and he didn’t have to wait long.

Cannon got his start in acting in 1998 when he starred in the Nickelodeon sketch series “All That” for three years. He then started off the new millennium by starring in movies such as “Drumline”, “Love Don’t Cost a Thing” and “Roll Bounce”. During this time, Cannon had also got into music, releasing a pair of albums and had hit singles with “Gigolo” and “Feelin’ Freaky”.

Cannon received his own show in 2002, though it would last for just 22 episodes before its cancellation. It wouldn’t take long for Cannon to spawn another show, though, with “Wild ‘N Out” premiering in 2005. The show ended in 2007, but was revived in 2013 and has been on ever since. Also in the 2000s, Cannon had starred as the host of “America’s Got Talent” and was in the films “Bobby”, “The Killing Room” and “Day of the Dead”.

In the 2010s, Cannon remained very busy. There was a second “Drumline” movie that was released, as well as the movies “Chi-Raq” and “King of the Dancehall”, which he also directed. Television remains where Cannon has been the busiest, though, as he has starred on the show “Real Husbands of Hollywood” while hosting the popular Fox series “The Masked Singer”, which even aired after the Super Bowl to a massive audience.

Cannon became part of one of the biggest power couples in entertainment when he started dating singer Mariah Carey during the late 2000s. The two moved quickly in their relationship, and would end up getting married in April of 2008. Exactly three years following their wedding, Cannon and Carey had twin children. The couple is no longer together after having split up for good in 2016, but there were a lot of good times and both are very active in the children’s lives.

Cannon went all out for his children in 2015 by placing an entire candy room in his house. “This room is the reason for all the hyperactivity,” Cannon said in a caption of a photo that showed off the candy room and his twins. “Patiently waiting for the sugar crash.” Cannon added that “I love candy. Always been that way since I was a kid...You know, we say stuff as a kid (like) ‘Oh, I want to grow up and make toys. I wanna have a candy store in my house.’ And I was like, alright, well, this is something that I always said I wanted to have as a kid.”

It doesn’t seem like there’s a gig that Cannon would ever turn down, and there’s a good reason for that. “You have to be vigorous,” Cannon said. “That’s the only way you are going to get it because everybody has dreams and everybody has goals, but the only people who achieve them are the ones that go after it and don’t take no for an answer.” He added that “I just work - however people feel about it, I mean, at the end of the day, if I’m waiting for accolades, I could be waiting all my life, but I don’t need that stuff to validate me. I just do what makes me happy...My vocation is my vacation. I love what I do”

So will his young children (he now has three in total), follow in their father’s footsteps at a young age? “Most aspiring child actors or child stars have a passion for it,” Cannon said. “But as easy as it is for me to say that I wouldn’t put my kids in it, if I saw that they really, really wanted to do (it) and they had the drive, then I would fully support it. As long as there’s balance at home, then they could do whatever they wanted to do.”
