"I've missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game-winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed." Michael Jordan talks a lot about the challenges he faced both before and during his professional basketball career. He is quick to point out that failure is often a big part of success. What a great role model for his son, Marcus!
Born on Christmas Eve in 1990, in Chicago, Illinois, Marcus James Jordan is the son of basketball superstar Michael Jordan and Juanita Vanoy. For many years the public expected him to follow in his famous father's footsteps due to his own talent. Marcus was a stand-out athlete in high school and college but ultimately chose to pursue a different life than that of a professional basketball player.
Early Life and College Basketball Career
During the first two years of his high school career, Marcus played basketball at the Loyola Academy with his older brother Jefferey. He then spent the final two years of high school attending and playing at Whitney Young High School. Marcus played shooting-guard and led the Whitney Young Dolphins to the state championship where they won the title.
Following his successful high school career, Jordan joined the basketball program at the University of Central Florida which is located just outside of Orlando, Florida. He played in the 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 seasons and was quite successful. After completing those two years on the basketball team, Marcus opted to leave the team. Even though he was no longer playing basketball, Jordan remained at UCF to continue and eventually complete his studies. Marcus Jordan graduated from UCF in 2012 with a degree in Hospitality Management.
Net Worth and The Trophy Room
Marcus Jordan's current net worth is estimated to be $500 million. It is unclear how much of this figure is related to family money and trust funds and how much he has earned. However, it is clear that Marcus has a head for business and is a bright young man. Marcus James Jordan stayed in the Orlando area following his graduation from the University of Central Florida. In 2016, Jordan founded The Trophy Room, a specialty sneaker and sportswear boutique. When the brand was first created, Marcus opened a boutique in the Disney Springs area of Orlando, FL. After several years in business, Jordan opted to shutter the store and move his brand to an online-only business model.
The business has expanded to include other brands in addition to Air Jordans. Sports fans are able to access the online store and order specialty sneakers along with other more mainstream items. The name of the store comes from the actual trophy room that is located at the Jordan estate. While growing up, Marcus shared that many important family events took place in Michael Jordan's trophy room. The room houses some of the elder Jordan's most important memorabilia along with sneakers and uniforms. It is a rather vast space, and it had a lasting impression on Marcus. He relates that spending time in the room was inspiring and always spurred him on to strive for more. It is that feeling that he wanted to recreate when he opened his sneaker boutique.
Current Projects
Marcus Jordan continues to run The Trophy Room online store. He continues to be close to his family, and there is no doubt that he will continue to grow as a successful businessman and entrepreneur. Marcus has shown that he knows how to forge his own path and create his own life of success.
"My father used to say that it's never too late to do anything you wanted to do. And he said, 'You never know what you can accomplish until you try.'" Michael Jordan has stayed somewhat behind the scenes when it comes to Marcus's business endeavors, but there is no doubt that he is proud of his son's drive and ambition.
