There are certain people that are massively famous, but you can’t really pinpoint why you find them so appealing. For many, that guilty pleasure that they like to follow is Kim Kardashian, who rose to fame as a socialite with many famous friends and a videotape that made its way around the internet. Kardashian then became a reality star, and used her newfound mainstream fame to build a business empire that has made her massively rich.

Kardashian was born to her father Robert, who worked as an attorney to the likes of O.J. Simpson, and mother Kris Jenner in Los Angeles on October 21, 1980. Kardashian would remain in the area during her childhood, and through connections that her wealthy family had, Kardashian had some very famous friends. The first time that people got a taste of Kardashian was when she appeared on the reality series “The Simple Life” with her friend Paris Hilton.

The fame that she was exposed to allowed Kardashian to open a clothing store with her family, and the previously mentioned tape that was released to the internet became popular. It also caught the attention of the E! Network, who had a proposal for the family. They wanted to feature them in a reality series called “Keeping Up with the Kardashians”, which first aired in 2007, and has been on the air ever since.

Kardashian has had some very memorable, albeit brief, relationships during her career. Early on, she had been married to a producer named Damon Thomas, dated rapper Ray J and was married for just 72 days to NBA player Kris Humphries. It wasn’t until mid 2012 that Kardashian had found something that would stick, and she started a relationship with Kanye West.

The two would eventually get engaged and were married in May of 2014 in Italy, and since then have had four children together. Kardashian’s net worth is estimated to be nearly $400 million, so it makes sense that she’d be able to make some big ticket purchases for her family. One of the biggest purchases that Kardashian has made for her hubby is a Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4, which she gave him on his 35th birthday. The car was estimated to be worth $750,000, and she even bought a smaller replica one for their child North to drive around the house in.

Since her reality television career started, Kardashian has been part of many spin-offs from the one that’s centered around her family. This includes “Kourtney and Kim Take Miami”, “Kourtney and Kim take New York” and “Khloe & Lamar”. Kardashian is a media powerhouse, who has even done a little bit of acting in movies such as “Disaster Movie”, “Deep in the Valley” and “Drop Dead Diva”.

Social media is another place where Kardashian is able to bring home a lot of money. She is one of the most followed people on the entire internet, and makes hundreds of thousands of dollars every time that she makes a post. It’s quite the lavish life that she lives, and only figures to add onto her already impressive net worth in the years to come.

Looking back on her rise to stardom as a reality television personality, Kardashian does have a few moments that she would’ve changed. “You really do learn about boundaries over time,” she said. “I look back at some of the episodes in the earlier seasons and I think, ‘I can’t believe I shared that.’ Dates with random people when we were single, things like that. But I also think that going through the motions of something like the aftermath of the (2016 Paris) robbery, or situations that most people might not understand, there are some people who might really have gone through that. I think about them. I feel like I came out of that a better person. Our approach to the show is to film everything and then scale back later.”

Of course, there are always a lot of headlines about Kardashian in the news, but it doesn’t affect her she says when she’s the main focus. “When it’s about my family, I get really protective,” she said. “Most of the time when things are so baseless or absurd, I have a good laugh. But as far as dealing with it on a daily level for me, I’m pretty content. If it’s about (West), or the kids, or my sisters, I can get worked up when I read things that are false or negative. But when it’s about me, I’ve learned how to block out the noise for the most part.”
