Jude Law is one of those people that’s shown that he’s a very versatile actor. He’s been in a wide variety of films throughout his career, and has been recognized for his work with many major award nominations. The British actor has remained busy in recent years, as well, including attaching himself to a major film franchise that had been adapted from the Harry Potter series of books. It might seem like Law has been around for a lifetime, but he’s still not yet into his 50s.

Law was born on December 29, 1972 in London, England to parents that had both worked as educators. “I had a very happy childhood,” Law said. “I never starved, nor did I have a silver spoon in my mouth. I’m one of those terribly middle of the road, British middle class, South London gents.” Growing up, Law took an interest in acting, and was appearing on stage in the area. He’d get his start during his teenage years in the 1980s, being classically trained. This helped to open the door for Law to start landing roles on screen.

Law made his acting debut in 1989 as part of a television movie called “The Tailor of Gloucester”. He’d then appear on TV a couple more times during the early 1990s, but focused mainly on his budding film career. The first film for Law came in 1992 with a short film, then two years later he appeared in “Shopping”.

Law spent the rest of the 1990s appearing in many notable films. In 1997, he had his breakout roles in both “Wilde” and “Gattaca”, which he followed up with “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil” and “Final Cut”. To finish off the millennium, Law starred in “The Talented Mr. Ripley”, earning himself an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

During his career, Law has been in relationships with actors that he’s worked with. His first notable relationship came in the mid 1990s when filming “Shopping”, when he worked with Sadie Frost. The two would eventually get married and had three children together. In 2003, though, the couple split after six years of marriage.

Shortly thereafter, Law met another actress on set, Sienna Miller. The two moved into a relationship quickly, and got engaged. However, the plans for marriage were set aside when Law was unfaithful, and they split up while he is now married to Phillipa Coan. There were good times, though, and that includes the engagement itself.

Law purchased a grand piano for $15,000 to give to Miller on Christmas morning. When she opened up the piano, she found the engagement ring inside waiting for her. “She wept after opening up the piano lid and discovering a wooden box - made from the same wood as the piano - containing a diamond and sapphire ring,” a source said. The estimated value for the ring was a whopping $200,000, as well.

Law remained very popular during the 2000s, even if some were critical about how his relationship with Miller ended. Law starred in major blockbusters such as “A.I. Artificial Intelligence”, “Road to Perdition” and “Cold Mountain” during the early 2000s, with the latter giving him a second Oscar nomination.

Toward the later half of the decade, Law added roles with “The Aviator”, “Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow” and “Sherlock Holmes”, playing Dr. Watson and starring alongside Robert Downey Jr. Since then, Law has been incredibly busy, with some of his more recent films including “Spy”, the “Fantastic Beasts” series and “Captain Marvel”. He’s even gotten back into acting on television, starring in “The Young Pope”, which earned him a Golden Globe nomination.

“My goal was always to be recognized as a good actor but no one was interested in that, simply because society just wants to warm towards your appearance,” Law has said about his career. “This is the great blemish of society.” He also reflected on when he first started to become popular, saying that “When you suddenly appear on the scene and you are the new face, everything centers on you. I experienced this in my mid 20s and I found it rather hard.”

Like Law says, there are many that are just as interested in his personal life as his acting career, which takes up most of the headlines that pertain to him. “I honestly have no interest in celebrity whatsoever,” Law has said. “If anything, I always cringe at it because it takes away from what I am, which is an actor who wants to be better and do better things.”
