Abigail Kathleen Breslin was born on April 14, 1996, in New York City. Although her parents eventually moved the family to Los Angeles, California, she still maintains a residence in New York. Breslin has two older brothers, both of whom are actors. With her first role coming at the tender of age of three, Breslin has continued to take on roles that push her boundaries and allow her the opportunity to explore her talents. The reviews she has received throughout her career shows that she is being well-received by audiences and has the respect of her peers as well.

Starting at an Early Age

Her first role was in a Toys R Us commercial. It didn't take long for her to be cast in other roles. In 2002, she appeared in Signs with Mel Gibson and in 2004, she starred alongside her brother Spencer in Raising Helen. One of her most endearing roles as a small child was as the orphan “princess” in the movie The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement. In 2006, her portrayal of Olive Hoover in the movie Little Miss Sunshine was destined to be the role that put her on Hollywood's radar. Before the age of 10, Breslin had been nominated for not only an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, but also a Screen Actors Guild Award.

Movies and Television

In 2007, she starred in No Reservations along with Catherine Zeta-Jones. Also in 2007, Breslin could be found in the movie, Definitely, Maybe alongside Ryan Reynolds. She was touted as a very versatile and talented actress by film critics like Roger Ebert. Even movie critics from the tabloids were extremely fond of the young actress, repeatedly mentioning her in their columns. Her instincts when it came to acting were just one of the things commonly mentioned when the actress was being discussed. She continued to appear in a variety of movies proving that she had the mettle and commitment to work with the best in the business. In 2008, she won the part of Kit in the movie Kit Kittredge: An American Girl and then went on to play in My Sister's Keeper in 2009.

Since 2013, Breslin has starred in several movies including Ender's Game, The Call, and August: Osage County. She appeared with both Julie Roberts and Meryl Streep in the movie. She has also acted in Perfect Sisters, Scream Queens, Zombieland, and Zombieland: Double Tap. There are other upcoming projects that have yet to be released. One of the movies has her co-starring alongside Matt Damon. As she continues to hone her talents, many more powerful roles are sure to be in her future.

Specialty Roles

It was her role as Helen Keller in the 2010 Broadway show The Miracle Worker that brought out Breslin's love for specialty roles. Even though the production was criticized for not putting a blind or deaf person in the role, Breslin's portrayal of Keller was on the mark and made the performance one to remember. Reviews claimed that Breslin had nailed Keller's tenacity and character and portrayed her beautifully. Be allowed to play one of the most influential women in history left a profound impression on the young actress. She stated during an interview that Helen Keller was one of her personal heroes and that being given the opportunity to portray her was an honor.

Not much is known about Breslin's personal life, except that her parents still maintain the apartment she has lived in most of her life. Breslin was in an abusive relationship that led to her being diagnosed with PTSD. She came forward in April of 2017, admitting that her former partner had raped her. Due to her experiences with sexual abuse, she has become a staunch advocate for individuals who have been sexually assaulted.
